Acquiring Wisdom

October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

King Solomon had a genie-like experience one night when he dreampt that God came to him and asked him his number one wish. King Solomon asked for a discerning heart to distinguish right and wrong in order to better govern the people – he was only a little child. God gave him wisdom to administer justice. God also gave Solomon riches and honor, and said that if Solomon walked in the ways of the Lord, he would receive long life as well. Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream.

God still speaks in many ways. Solomon’s dream came true, and from his great wisdom we have the book of Proverbs.

Read Proverbs to:

attain wisdom and discipline
understand words of insight
acquire a prudent and disciplined life
do what is right and just and fair
gain knowledge and discretion
add to your learning
guide your discerning
to understand proverbs (the sayings of the wise)
and to understand parables (the riddles of the wise).

Only a fool would despise wisdom and discipline.
Fear God, and start the journey to true knowledge.

Jesus Still Speaks

October 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This morning Jesus spoke to me as I read the introduction to the Book of Proverbs. I read about God’s desire for us to spend our talents as best we can for Him. I paused, looked up, and asked, “Lord, how do you want me to do this for you?” Do you believe God can still answer questions immediately? He did in this case. The next words I read were “teach people how to attain wisdom.” Here begins the blog Devotions for Today.
